Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Responsibilities & Training


The paramedic staffed team is equipped to handle all medical emergencies from cut fingers to cardiac arrest. All Grandview Heights Fire Medics are trained in:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support
  • Trauma Life Support
  • Pediatric Life Support
  • Other continuing education topics

Medic

The Medic is equipped with a:

  • Cardiac monitor/defibrillator/pacemaker that transmits EKGs to emergency room physicians
  • Special equipment kits for airway problems, medications, pediatric patients and trauma

Procedures

Procedures done by the Fire Medics are guided by a symptom-based medical protocol. The medical protocol was written by the Division's Medical Director, Dr. Alan Gora, a board-certified emergency physician at Mount Carmel Hospital.
